I welcome and thank you for visiting the website of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at the University of Calabar. Our Faculty is a very vibrant and well-focused Faculty, where experts are bred, professionals are made and scholars are groomed. The vision of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences- to be a model in academic excellence and social responsibility through research in affiliate specialist areas for global impact, is aptly crafted to capture our domineering role in manpower training and development in the health industry. The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences has four Departments namely: Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Department of Nursing Science, Department of Physiotherapy, Department of Public Health and Department of Radiography and Radiological Science. All the Departments have a well-structured and market-driven courses and curricula that lead to the award of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various fields within their departments. Our students are privileged to be trained by our highly experienced and well-trained teams of teaching, administrative, clinic, and technical staff, who combine intellectual ability, experience and commitment in dispensing knowledge and professional skills to the students. Students are inspired to learn, acquire knowledge and skills, and consequently, develop enriching experience that enables them to be outstanding in practice. The Departments have laboratories that are equipped with hi-tech facilities in a very serene environment that promotes learning and other academic activities.

The following undergraduate programs exist in Department within the Faculty

i.                    Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS),

ii.                  Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.),

iii.                Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.PT),

iv.                Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.Sc.), and

v.                  Bachelor of Radiography and Radiological Science (B.Rad.).

Except young Department of Physiotherapy, postgraduate programs are also available in all other Departments. Some Departments train students for award of higher degrees in very many areas of specializations. We are deeply committed to inter-departmental research collaborations, which result in professionalism and the broadening of intellectual horizon of our beloved students.

As part of meeting our vision for social responsibility, the Department of Public Health Science of our Faculty accommodates the Centre of Excellence for Research and Training in Human Resources for Health being a National Collaborating Centre for Education and Training in Health Planning and Management. The Centre exists in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
